Updates on life

Whew. I know I haven't updated in a few days, time flies.

As CJ is weaning off his medicine he's showing more serious signs of withdrawal. He's cranky and fussy, he craves being held or worn in one of my many baby carriers. Have I written about babywearing yet? Hmmm....another post. At night he must be swaddled tightly or he cannot sleep more than a few minutes. He loves motion and we're trying to find a baby swing as it's the only piece of baby plastic we hadn't previously purchased. He's still eating well and gaining weight though.

CJ had his first visit with Mama R this week. She seems intelligent and determined to get her little boy back. I'm rooting for her. Most of the bio parents I have dealt with in the past have had mental illness issues that often get in the way of fully comprehending the situation and what is required of them. She gets it and she's trying. At the visit she told CJ "I'm gonna get better for you baby boy"

Lili is back in preschool this week and I'm crossing my fingers that she has picked up all the illnesses that the other kids had to offer. Jo and I have been having some great mommy-and-me adventures during Lili's preschool time. She was so tired today she asked (YES ASKED!) to go to bed a half hour before bedtime.

I bought a few small items for the girls easter baskets and an easter basket for CJ today. I love holidays, especially as a mom. I love the excitement, just the magic of it.

That's so great to hear about CJ's mom wanting to get herself together for her baby. It probably helps her a lot to know he's so well taken care of.
Our first FS was colicky and would only sleep in the swing. 8 hours of back-and-forth would have driven me crazy, but he loved it.

Have you seen the Amby hammock? (ambybaby.com) CJ might love it. And if you call them directly, you can ask them if they have any returned hammocks. They sell them for a reduced price and they're new quality. That's how we got ours. Niblet LOVED it, and she was a swaddle girl, too. She slept in it, swaddled, until she was 11 months old.

I have heard great things about the amby before. I did call and they had a few returned....so I bought one. It looks more versatile than a swing. I hope it helps!

You sound like you're doing great with CJ. Niblet was also born with drugs in her system, and it wasn't until she was over a year old that she could sleep without being tightly swaddled. She still has issues, but is SO much better than she was.

I highly recommend starting to do some therapeutic yoga with him. This is what made such a big difference for Niblet. We didn't learn about it until we got her OT through Early Intervention, but there's no reason you couldn't do some yourself. Itsy Bitsy Yoga has series for all stages of infant development. Our OT recommended Yoga for the Special Child, too.

Niblet's biggest issue was not having integrated all of her prenatal reflexes. She was born at 28 weeks. We did one pose with her for 3 reps of 10 seconds 3x/day, and in one month we were seeing unbelievable results. I'm sure it isn't that extreme for everyone, but it's such a great therapy because there's no harm in giving it a shot.
